Points to Remember – “Palm Sunday: Following the Way of Jesus”
Sunday, March 28, 2021
Psychologists tell us that the one thing common in those experiencing depression is a disappointment. This comes from high expectations not fulfilled. We may believe that God has let us down. During this past year our lives have been so out-of-order and for many, filled with loss. Yet we’ve all tended to do the best we could under the circumstances and would do well to be easy on ourselves.
Many spiritual leaders in the Bible felt depression including the prophets Job, Elijah, Jonah, and Jeremiah. Each was victorious over depression by:
1..Continuing to believe God was working in their lives.
2..Maintaining a relationship where they both talked and listened to God
3..Claiming the promises of God, continuing to trust God.
One of the Truths we teach in Unity is the presence of Divine Mind within each person. God has placed within the being of each person Divine Universal Mind which every one of us can embrace. And, when we do, we can be assured we are living in God’s flow.
Each person, if they are willing, can move out of a state of depression or anxiety. This comes about when you grasp the Truth that life is ongoing, not limited to our earthly experience. When our time here is over, there are friendly, helpful, welcoming Guides – under the direction of a loving, compassionate God – to receive us into the Divine Realm. Once you embrace this Truth, you can live with ease, knowing our ultimate wellbeing is assured.
Having accepted this Truth, there is obviously no reason to defer your trust in God until you depart this world. Rather you can exercise this trust in God right now. And when you do, you see that you can know every situation, each circumstance, all conditions of life can be entrusted to God. When you do this, you live in a state of total freedom of anything that could cause depression in your life.
Jesus showed us how to live a successful life by doing that which serves others. He did so by trusting God that is not seen visibly. And he also employed tools that are not, in and of themselves visible including: Love, Kindness, Gratitude, Forgiveness, Joy, and Peace.
On that first Palm Sunday, Jesus lived true to his teachings and to his being, demonstrating his Message of Truth. He did so even though it was obvious the people around him had not gotten his real message and were instead caught up in hero worship, wanting someone to do it for them.
Jesus rather continued to practice his teachings right up to the end of his earthly experience including:
A..The Kingdom of God is within you, not in the material world
B..He acknowledged his humanness
C..Jesus took no credit, rather directing it to God
D..He empowered others in his statements and practices
E..Jesus was clear about the oneness of his relationship with God as well
as ours
Jesus was always telling people to stand up for what they wanted, to make known to God their desires, and to do so without hesitation. So, when the blind beggar, Bartemaeus, (Mark 10) called out for help on Jesus’ way to Jerusalem, Jesus healed him saying, “Your faith has made you well.”
As Jesus asked Bartemaeus, we do well to hear the message of God to each of us, saying, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The question for each of us is, “Am I willing to prepare the way of the Lord within me?”
