Points to Remember – Sunday, November 1, 2020
“I See You … beyond the mask”
In this human experience, we wear a variety of masks. Not just the Halloween masks designed to frighten or honor an idol, but the masks of the roles we play: mother, father, child, laborer, employer, artist, doctor, and so on. In the Celtic tradition, Halloween masks were worn to ward off evil spirits.
We sometimes wear masks designed to ward off the things we fear: bravado in the face of fear, self-reproach in the face of self-doubt, the victor in the face of victimhood or the belief in we are somehow separate from one another. We wear masks of past experiences, past conditioning, thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. We wear masks that often hide more than our faces.
The masks we wear can conceal our individualized expression of the One Power, One Presence, One Activity, God the Good. Not God, the sometimes good. Not God the High & Mighty man in the sky, God, but the power & presence within each of us is good, whole, & harmonious.
When we can look beyond the masks we wear, we see and connect with that One power, which cannot be masked to the heart. We connect with our oneness in Spirit; we see the Light radiating out from another’s eyes, beyond the face, beyond the mask, and even beyond the physical body. And when we do, we are reunited with the whole.
How do we See the Wholeness and Light in others, beyond the masks we wear? How do I see beyond the masks of COVID-19, the masks of Halloween, the masks of personality, identity, energy, skin color, past experiences, culture, denominations, beliefs, political parties, and emotions, and the belief in separation?
We have to L-Evate our Consciousness by Listening, Looking, & Loving
Listening: Through the heart: When we listen with open hearts and listen from the heart, we hear things we might not otherwise hear. We connect in a new and more powerful way and discover what can no longer be masked by appearances and misunderstandings. We connect with the greater Truth in each of us. By listening through the heart, we can hear the voice behind the personality trying to emerge as a higher version of self. We may even begin to see the energy or Light of another that shines out beyond the mask and even the physical body.
Looking Beyond the Mask – beyond outer conditions
We need to train ourselves see with our hearts, to see beyond behaviors, appearances, worries, and fears and even at times beyond the energy being carried. And that requires us to lower our own masks, and release the victim/victor consciousness allowing the Truth of us to be projected through our own hearts.
Jake Sully, the main character in the movie Avatar said, “I was a warrior who dreamed he could bring peace. Sooner or later, though, you always have to wake up.” Eventually, we have to wake up to Love being the true answer to everything that as long as we cling to the warrior, or either the victim or the victor consciousness we cannot fully grasp what lies behind the masks of our human experience.
Loving is the key to penetrating the thickest of masks. In Matthew 22:2, Jesus says: “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding feast for his son.” In the parable, the king’s friends were too busy to attend the wedding, so the king invited strangers. The strangers came, but one was not wearing wedding garments and was thrown out. At first read, this seems to contradict a loving God, but the parable is not about clothes – not physical ones, anyway.
The wedding garment refers to the aura or energy with which we clothe ourselves. When the garment – or mask – is not of the finest quality, the best thoughts, the best energies, we cannot remain for long in the place of harmony symbolized by the wedding. The garment we clothe ourselves in must be one that is from the heart, grounded in love.
Love your neighbor, AS you love yourself is not just about your neighbor. It is a directive to shower both your neighbor and yourself in the garment or energy of Love. When you do this, you open the eyes of your heart and look beyond your own masks to see the beautiful, powerful spiritual being you are. Loving yourself, your true self, allows you to radiate and give love. It allows you to not only wear the energy of love, it enables you to radiate and shower others in that harmonious energy.
Listen, Look, and radiate Love to what radiates and glows beyond the mask, the beauty and brilliance of the I AM. When we look beyond the masks we wear, the physical ones, the emotional and energetic ones, we see the spiritual being, the I AM, pure and whole in every way. And it is then that we can say with an open and joyous heart I SEE you. I SEE The Truth of You and I SEE that you and I are one. Not two.
