“Why Are You Here?”
At this critical time in our nation’s history, each of us may consider why we are here — in our family, in our community, in our Church, and in our country.  In contemplating the life we seek, we can choose to envision a wondrous time of loving kindness, hope, inspiration and justice.

Points to Remember  – “Why Are You Here” – Sunday, January 17, 2021

One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is, “Why am I here?” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. knew why he was here, to “carry the gospel of freedom so that this nation will rise up and live out its creed that all men are created equal.”

Jesus knew why he was here, affirming that God had anointed him to “bring good news to the suffering and  afflicted, to comfort the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, to tell those who mourn that
the time of God’s favor has come.” Jesus knew very well his mission.

We know that our mission here on earth is to gain that higher awareness we call Christ Consciousness. And, in doing so, we are called upon to support a way of living that brings people together and promotes social
wellbeing.

One of the fascinating ideas Dr. King promoted was the concept of the “Beloved Community.” He described this as a culture of peace, a society of loving-kindness and divine justice where people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, cultures, and colors live together in a symphony of brotherhood and sisterhood. It is a divine idea in the mind of God, a dynamic spiritual vision.

Each of us is called upon to further this vision of the Beloved Community and to claim it as our mission to the best of our ability. We can live this vision within our personal life, family, friends, groups, and community – because this vision is already within our soul. It is comparable to when a farmer plants a seed. The divine idea is already in the seed. It merely needs the right conditions in the form of soil, water, and nutrients.

In a similar way, there is a seed of peace and non-violence within each one of us – a seed of economic equality, of racial justice, and every facet of good each person benefits by. We need only the right conditions for all of this Greater Good to express. Those right conditions rest within the mind of each of us. As an increasing number of persons hold this in mind, it will express in our communities and in our world.

As you choose to enlist yourself in the Beloved Community and embrace these principles and practices, you take a stand for Truth, for Life, a stand leading to the healing of our country and our world.
