Defining and Honoring Boundaries
Boundaries are the personal limits established in relationships to protect physical, emotional, and mental well-being. They define what is, and is not, integral, and feels more comfortable in different aspects of life. Boundaries and limits demonstrate how to expect to be treated by others based on how we treat ourselves.
Spiritual boundaries are our responsibility and therefore of utmost importance.
Protecting your relationship with God: Scripture emphasizes guarding the heart and mind to protect the spiritual walk from influences that might draw one away from God.
Proverbs 4:23: “Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life”.
Types of Boundaries include:
- Physical: Involves personal space, touch, and physical intimacy.
- Emotional: Relates to feelings, thoughts, and how emotions are shared and responded to.
- Time: Focuses on how time is allocated and prioritized, and its value.
- Intellectual: Involves respecting individual beliefs, opinions, and values, and ensuring respectful discussions, even during disagreements.
- Financial: Deals with spending habits, privacy, and boundaries around shared finances or lending money.
- Cultural: Takes into account customs, traditions, and generational differences.
Join us this Sunday with Rev Martha Creek to explore honoring ourselves and others through healthy boundaries.
